On July 23, the 20th International Cartoonists Convention (ICC) opened grandly at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. This annual event, which brings together the world’s top comic forces, with the theme of “Global Comics New Wave: Resonance with the New Generation”, has built a high-end cross-cultural and cross-field communication platform, attracting cartoonists, animation producers, industry elites and senior enthusiasts from all over the world to attend this creative feast.

Sun Lijun, former vice president of the Beijing Film Academy and president of the Beijing Film and Television Animation Association, was invited to deliver a keynote speech on behalf of China in the “New Wave of Comics” special lecture. With profound industry insights and forward-looking vision, he interpreted the unique positioning and innovative path of Chinese comics in the wave of globalization, which resonated widely among international peers. Li Jianping, former dean of the School of Animation of the Beijing Film Academy and vice president of the Beijing Film and Television Animation Association, had in-depth dialogues with industry experts from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, China, at the Asian comics expert sharing forum, focusing on the cultural roots and future trends of Asian comics, and demonstrating China’s important voice in the Asian comics landscape.
The International Comic Exhibition (ICE) held at the same time as the conference also has many highlights. Nearly 300 world-renowned cartoonists brought more than 400 masterpieces to the exhibition, covering works from France, Italy, Spain, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and even Chinese local masterpieces. Among them, President Sun Lijun, as a representative of painters, exhibited comic works “Guarding the Pole and Waiting for Fish” and “The Crowd” at the International Comic Exhibition. With their distinctive Chinese style and profound humanistic connotations, they have become a unique oriental landscape at the exhibition, allowing global audiences to experience the artistic charm of Chinese comics up close.
